It’s a great time for Vipers at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. The six-time Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions are enjoying a remarkable season, currently leading the standings after 13 games.
For weeks, the top spot has been tightly contested between Vipers, NEC, and KCCA due to differing numbers of games played.
Now, with all three teams having played 13 matches, Vipers hold the top position with 28 points, following their impressive 4-0 win over Mbale Heroes on Friday.
12-Game Unbeaten Streak
The Venoms’ victory in Mbale extended their unbeaten run to 12 games, the longest streak in the UPL this season.
Their only loss came on the opening day of the campaign, a 3-1 defeat to NEC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Since then, they’ve been unstoppable, becoming the only team in the league to lose just one game, while the other 15 teams have lost at least twice.
Dominant Away Form
Vipers have also been exceptional on the road, collecting 16 points from seven away games with five wins, one draw, and one loss.
Their biggest win of the season, the 4-0 thrashing of Mbale Heroes, came away from home.
Allan Okello Leads the Charge
The Mbale victory was highlighted by Allan Okello’s stellar performance.
The league’s top scorer netted a brace, taking his tally to 10 goals this season.
Okello has been instrumental in Vipers’ dominance, contributing to their strong title push.
The Road Ahead
With their unbeaten streak and consistent performances, Vipers are firmly in control of the UPL title race.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Kitende-based outfit to see if they can maintain their lead and secure a seventh championship.
