The Uganda U17 national football team, the Uganda Cubs, have secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 4-1 victory over Somalia in the semifinals of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Tuesday.
Under the guidance of coach Brian Ssenyondo, the Cubs will now represent Uganda on the continental stage in Morocco next year.
This achievement means Uganda will have two national teams in Morocco, as the senior team, the Uganda Cranes, also qualified for the 2025 AFCON earlier in November under coach Paul Put.
The U17 tournament will take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025, while the senior AFCON will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
While qualification was the primary objective for the Cubs, they’ll look to add silverware to their campaign when they face Tanzania in the CECAFA U17 final at Nakivubo on Friday, December 27.
