Uganda Athletics Federation Unveils 2025 Calendar, Marks 100 Years of Excellence

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) on Saturday morning launched their 2025 calendar, a year where the federation commemorates a century of athletic excellence.

The centerpiece of the year will be a momentous celebration honoring the nation’s athletic heroes, both past and present.

Among those to be recognized are the late John Akii-Bua, Uganda’s first Olympic gold medalist in the 400m hurdles, and contemporary stars like Joshua Cheptegei, the reigning Olympic 10,000m champion, and Peruth Chemutai, the Olympic silver medalist in the steeplechase.

President Dominic Otuchet expressed his commitment to making this centennial year an unforgettable one, emphasizing the importance of rigorous preparations for the upcoming World Championships and the nurturing of young talent through robust youth development programs.

“Our goal is to not only witness more Ugandan athletes qualify for global events but also to cultivate a new generation of stars who will carry the torch of Ugandan athletics into the future,” Otuchet declared.

The 2025 season kicks off in January with cross-country events in Arua, Kabarole, and Kapchorwa, followed by the Discovery Uganda Road Run.

The National Cross-Country Championships will take center stage in February in Tororo, while March will feature three national trials and international engagements, including Uganda’s participation in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

The highlight athletics event of 2025 will be the World Championships that will happen in September hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
