CHAN 2024: Who Joins Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya?

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that the draw for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be conducted on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

The event will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The CHAN tournament, which features players from domestic leagues across Africa, will run from February 1 to 28, 2025, and be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, marking the first time the tournament has been hosted by three countries.

The seeding for the draw will be based on performances from the last three CHAN editions (2018, 2020, and 2022).

Pot 1 will include the co-hosts—Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—alongside defending champions Senegal and two-time winners Morocco.

Pot 2 comprises Guinea, Zambia, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Sudan, while Pot 3 will feature Mauritania, Niger, Congo, Angola, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

CAF has also confirmed that the draw will be held at 8 PM EAT.

Notably, the DRC and Morocco have each won the tournament twice, with DRC clinching the title in 2009 and 2016 and Morocco winning consecutively in 2018 and 2020.

Other past winners include Tunisia (2011), Libya (2014), and Senegal, who are the reigning champions from the 2022 edition.

With 18 teams participating, the tournament promises to be a showcase of African football talent, providing a platform for domestic players to shine on the continental stage.

For the co-hosts, CHAN 2024 will also serve as an opportunity to prepare for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2027, which they are set to host.
