Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo is set to make his highly anticipated marathon debut in one of the most competitive lineups in London Marathon history.
Scheduled for April 27, 2025, the elite fields for this year’s event include Olympic champions, world record holders, and a host of the fastest marathoners in history.
Kiplimo, known for his stellar achievements on the track and in cross-country, is transitioning to the marathon after a career that includes four World Cross Country titles and Olympic and World Championship bronze medals in the 10,000m.
He will compete alongside reigning Olympic champion Tamirat Tola, 2024 London Marathon winner Alexander Mutiso, and Sabastian Sawe, whose 2:02:05 victory in Valencia last year marked the fastest marathon debut in history.
“This is quite simply the greatest elite field in the history of the London Marathon,” said TCS London Marathon CEO Hugh Brasher, emphasizing the caliber of athletes set to race.
The women’s competition is equally star-studded, with Uganda’s Stella Chesang competing against Olympic champion Sifan Hassan, reigning champion Ruth Chepngetich, and Tigst Assefa, the second-fastest woman in history, leading the pack.
Six women in the field have personal bests under 2:17, underscoring the race’s extraordinary depth.
Notable entrants include Joyciline Jepkosgei, the 2021 London Marathon winner, and Alemu Megertu, the 2024 Valencia Marathon champion.
