Victoria University Crocs head coach Roger Sserunyigo attributes his side’s FUBA National Basketball League promotion to team effort.
The side saw off Uganda Martyrs University Flames 3-0 in their best-of-five playoff semifinal on Wednesday in Lugogo to clinch a finals slot and ticket back to the top flight.
An inspired second half performance led by Center Joseph Kumbai who registered a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds saw the team clinch an NBL spot for the upcoming season.
The university side showcased shooting prowess coupled with defensive awareness as they sealed a convincing victory.
“We are excited about this result. It’s a good team of young people who work hard and enjoy playing like a unit,” said Sserunyigo.
He believes the team additions in the second round have led the team to success.
“The second-round signings of Eric Kumbai and Marier Nyong have made a good statement. We lost just one game in the second round having lost a number of games in the first round,” he added.
They RezLife Saints have a 2-0 advantage in the other semifinal with a win tonight against UPDF Tomahawks sealing a finals slot.
