Manchester United Legend Denis Law Passes Away at 84

Manchester United legend Denis Law, a member of the club’s iconic “Holy Trinity” and one of the greatest strikers of his generation, passed away on Friday at the age of 84.

Law, known affectionately as “The King,” succumbed to the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, a condition he was diagnosed with in 2021.

The news sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes pouring in from fellow players, clubs, and fans worldwide.

Law, a prolific goal scorer, enjoyed a stellar career that saw him represent Huddersfield Town, Manchester City, Torino, and Manchester United.

He achieved legendary status at Old Trafford, where he scored 237 goals in 404 appearances and played a pivotal role in the club’s historic 1968 European Cup victory.

He was also a key figure for the Scotland national team, scoring 30 goals in 55 appearances, making him the country’s joint all-time leading scorer.

His individual accolades include the Ballon d’Or in 1964, a testament to his exceptional talent and impact on the game.

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney simply stated, “Legend. Thoughts with all Denis’ family and friends,” while club stalwart Gary Neville described Law as “a great footballer and a great man.”

Bryan Robson, another United legend who worked closely with Law, called him “a fantastic man” and emphasized his impact beyond the pitch. “He was more than just a fantastic footballer, he was a fantastic man. So generous with his time and everything delivered with that great sense of humour of his,” Robson said.

Law’s legacy at Manchester United is indelibly linked to the club. He is the only player to have two statues dedicated to him at Old Trafford, one on the Stretford End concourse and another as part of the “United Trinity” sculpture alongside George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton.

Beyond his playing career, Law continued to contribute to the game and society. He worked as a broadcaster, supported numerous charities, and became a powerful voice in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.

Manchester United, Manchester City, the Scottish Football Association, and numerous other clubs and organizations expressed their deep sorrow at Law’s passing.
