Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has expressed confidence that Lewis Hamilton will rediscover his peak performance after joining the Scuderia for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, parted ways with Mercedes after a challenging 2024 campaign and signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari, forming a formidable driver pairing alongside Charles Leclerc.
Vigna, speaking to Italian media, emphasized Hamilton’s “great desire for change” and his ability to contribute significantly to the team, both on and off the track.
“A guy who has won seven titles can transfer so much,” Vigna said. “He has a great desire for change, he’s not afraid. At the age of 40, he has put himself back into the game.”
Hamilton is expected to begin simulator work with Ferrari next week, marking the start of his journey with the iconic Italian team.
Ferrari, under team principal Fred Vasseur, showed significant progress in 2024, narrowly missing out on the championship to McLaren.
Vigna expressed his pride in the team’s performance and believes Hamilton’s arrival will provide an extra “push” to propel Ferrari further.
“Last year at the last race in Abu Dhabi, I personally thanked the whole team,” Vigna added. “Now there is a good atmosphere. It’s clear that it must always be maintained, that’s the beauty of the Ferrari spirit: it always pushes you to go further.”
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has generated immense excitement among fans and within the paddock. The Briton will be aiming to secure a record-breaking eighth world championship while helping Ferrari end their long title drought, which dates back to 2008.
