Absa Bank has officially launched the 3rd edition of its flagship Absa 7 Hills Run, rebranded this year as “Change Her Story.”
The event, dedicated to empowering the girl child through education, will take place on Sunday, 16 March 2025, at Kololo Airstrip.
Speaking at the launch held at Legends Lugogo, David Wandera, Interim Managing Director of Absa Bank, expressed the bank’s commitment to raising over UGX 500 million through the run.
He emphasized the event’s significant growth, with participation surging from 2,000 runners in 2023 to over 6,000 in 2024.
“This year, we aim to raise even more funds to address the critical challenges girls face in accessing education,” Wandera stated. “In many communities, girls are often disadvantaged when it comes to schooling due to limited resources. Through ‘Change Her Story,’ we strive to change this narrative, enabling girls to stay in school and build a brighter future.”
The “Change Her Story” initiative specifically targets challenges faced by girls, such as limited access to education and inadequate menstrual hygiene facilities, which significantly impact their ability to continue their studies.
By raising awareness and generating funds, the run aims to bridge these gaps and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to thrive.
Exciting prizes await the top runners, including a land title in Mpigi District, courtesy of Bakayima Estate, and a fully sponsored trip to participate in the Johannesburg Run, sponsored by Absa Bank.
Elite runners, including renowned athlete Joshua Cheptegei, have been invited to participate.
