Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC striker Jovia Nakagolo remains optimistic about her impact this season despite a goalless draw in her much-anticipated debut against Makerere University WFC in the opening round of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women’s Super League.
Nakagolo, who joined Kawempe Muslim from UCU Lady Cardinals, struggled to make her mark in a tightly contested match where both teams failed to convert their chances. However, the forward remains confident that she will soon find her rhythm.
“The match was difficult, especially since it was my first with the team. We didn’t quite click yet, but I’m confident that I’ll shine before the season ends,” Nakagolo stated.
The game saw several attacking attempts from both sides, but a resolute defensive display ensured the scoreline remained unchanged. Makerere University WFC’s Patricia Namboozo was named Woman of the Match, an honor she credited to her hard work and dedication.
“I put in a lot of effort in training, and I’m glad it paid off,” Namboozo said after the match.
However, Kawempe Muslim head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi expressed concerns about the selection process for the award, arguing that Makerere’s Namuleme Zaina also delivered an outstanding performance and should have been considered.
Elsewhere in the league, Amus College WFC secured a 1-0 victory over Wakiso Hill WFC, while Tooro Queens WFC edged Rines WFC 2-1. Kabaculezi Mary and Kasemire Imelda were on target for Tooro Queens, while Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi netted Rines’ only goal.
With the season now in full swing, Nakagolo and her Kawempe teammates will be looking to sharpen their attack and get back to winning ways as they aim to challenge Kampala Queens for the league title.
