Uganda Eyes Second Straight Win as They Face Revamped Singapore

The Cricket Cranes will be aiming to maintain their perfect start in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B when they take on Singapore at the Kowloon Cricket Club on Friday at 4 AM EAT.

Fresh from a 52-run victory over Bahrain in their opening match, Uganda will look to extend their dominance against a Singapore side desperate to turn their fortunes around.

Coach Abhay Sharma’s men will need to quickly adjust to the conditions at Kowloon, a venue known for its small straight boundaries and spin-friendly wicket.

Uganda may opt for a spin-heavy attack to counter Singapore’s aggressive batting approach. Captain Riazat Ali Shah emphasized the importance of batting partnerships and a disciplined bowling effort.

“We need to be clinical in all aspects of the game,” Shah said. “The top five batsmen must focus on building strong partnerships to set up a formidable total. We’ve observed that defending scores below 250 can be challenging on these grounds. Our bowling and fielding will also need to be sharper.”

Singapore, coming off two consecutive losses, have made wholesale changes to their squad, introducing seven new players.

Experienced all-rounder Janak Prakash returns to bolster their lineup alongside young talents like Aryaveer Chaudhary, Vinoth Baskaran, and Ishaan Swaney.

Despite Uganda’s dominant seven-wicket win over Singapore in the first leg of the Challenge League B in Entebbe, Singapore captain Manpreet Singh remains optimistic.

“We respect every opponent. But in cricket, there’s always room for surprises. We will enjoy our game against Uganda,” Singh said.

Uganda received a boost with opening batsman Shrideep Mangela declared fit after suffering a head injury scare in the Bahrain match.

With their strong all-round depth and recent form, the Cricket Cranes will head into the contest as favorites but will need to guard against complacency.

Probable Uganda XI:

Riazat Ali Shah (c), Raghav Dhawan, Fred Achelam, Shrideep Mangela, Juma Miyagi, Dinesh Nakrani, Frank Nsubuga, Robinson Obuya, Alpesh Ramjani, Henry Ssenyondo, Kenneth Waiswa
12th Man: Cosmas Kyewuta
