Nemostars Volleyball Club delivered a resounding 3-0 victory over defending champions Sport-S in the National Volleyball League on Sunday evening at the MTN Arena in Lugogo, handing their rivals their first loss of the season.
Sport-S had been unstoppable in the league, winning all 11 of their previous matches, including 10 straight-set victories.
Their only five-set encounter had come in October, when they mounted a remarkable comeback from two sets down to edge Nemostars 3-2.
However, this time, there was no such fightback as Nemostars controlled the game from start to finish.
From the opening set, Nemostars imposed their dominance, capitalising on Sport-S’s struggles in reception to take the set 25-21.
Both teams struggled with service errors, gifting each other points, but Nemostars remained composed under pressure.
The second set saw Nemostars extend their advantage, widening the margin to 25-18 before sealing the match with a 25-21 win in the third set.
A key factor in Nemostars’ success was their defensive stability, with libero Brian Musinguzi excelling in reception and digging, neutralising Sport-S’s attacking threats.
His ability to handle powerful spikes and tricky serves ensured Nemostars stayed in control throughout.
The victory marks Nemostars’ 10th win of the season and reduces the gap between them and table-topping Sport-S, who still lead the standings despite the setback.
More importantly, the result boosts Nemostars’ confidence as they look to build momentum in the title race.
