SC Villa’s struggles on the road continued as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Wakiso Giants in the second round opener of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
Despite their dominance at home, the Jogoos have failed to replicate the same form away, and today’s result extended their winless streak on the road this season.
Aslam Ssemakula gave Villa the lead in the 23rd minute, heading in a well-delivered cross from David Owori after a quick interchange with Hassan Mubiru.
The visitors looked poised to build on the advantage, but a resilient Wakiso Giants side found a way back.
The hosts capitalised on Villa’s missed chances, drawing level in the 60th minute after a defensive mishap.
Goalkeeper Norman Agundifiru misjudged a cross from Timothy Oyamo, allowing Musa Ssegujja’s header to strike the crossbar before Hudson Mbalire reacted quickest to tap in the rebound.
SC Villa had opportunities to reclaim their lead, most notably in the 71st minute when Andrew Otim found himself one-on-one with James Alitho, but the Wakiso Giants goalkeeper made a crucial block to keep his side in the game.
Alitho had earlier made a fine save to deny Owori, tipping his long-range strike over the bar. Despite Villa’s persistent attacks, Wakiso Giants held firm to secure a vital point.
The result leaves SC Villa 8th on the table with 21 points, while Wakiso Giants remain in the relegation zone, sitting 14th with 13 points.
Villa’s failure to win means they are yet to register any victory in the eighti away games they’ve so far played this season, a trend that has plagued their campaign.
They have suffered defeats against Mbale Heroes, Vipers, Express, NEC, and Kitara, while settling for draws against Maroons, KCCA, and now Wakiso Giants.
Their inability to perform away from home continues to hinder their ambitions, and unless they find a solution, their hopes of defending their title will remain distant.
