President Museveni, Cheptegei Lead Tributes to Kiplimo’s Half Marathon Record

Jacob Kiplimo’s record-breaking half marathon run in Barcelona has sparked celebrations across Uganda, with the country’s top leaders and fellow athletes hailing his remarkable achievement.

The 24-year-old stunned the world on Sunday (16) by clocking 56:41*, becoming the first man to break the 57-minute barrier in the half marathon.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was among the first to congratulate Kiplimo, acknowledging the significance of his achievement.

“Hearty congratulations to Jacob Kiplimo, who has this morning broken the world half marathon record in Barcelona with a time of 56 minutes and 41 seconds,” the president wrote.

First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni also extended her praise, highlighting Kiplimo’s dedication and discipline.

“I join Mzee in congratulating you, Jacob Kiplimo2l, on your phenomenal achievement at the Barcelona Half Marathon. May God bless you, and may your dedication and discipline continue to inspire both Uganda and Africa. Well done, Jacob!!”

Olympic champion and fellow Ugandan long-distance star Joshua Cheptegei, who previously held the 10,000m world record, celebrated Kiplimo’s triumph with admiration.

“The record boy takes it back again!! Bravo Jacob. What a great moment to be alive in this era,” Cheptegei wrote.

Kiplimo’s record-breaking feat has not only cemented his status as one of the greatest distance runners of his generation but has also reignited national pride.

Fans and sports enthusiasts across Uganda have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, hailing his resilience and talent.

With this historic performance in Barcelona, Kiplimo has set the bar higher as he prepares for his marathon debut in London in April.

Uganda will be watching closely, hoping their star can continue his record-breaking streak on the grandest stage.
