Kabasweka’s Triumph Leads Uganda Golfers in Rwanda, Rugumayo Shines in 4th Place

Peace Kabasweka, captain of the Uganda Ladies National Golf Team and Uganda Open 2022 champion, triumphed at the Rwanda Ladies Open, which concluded last weekend at the Kigali Golf Resort.

Kabasweka finished the tournament with a consistent performance across all four days, carding scores of 82, 76, 78, and 83, securing the win and reaffirming her status as one of East Africa’s top female golfers.

Kabasweka’s victory in the tournament follows her successful leadership of the Ugandan team and further adds to her impressive record.

As the captain of the Ladies National Golf Team, Kabasweka has continued to inspire young golfers and has been a key figure in Uganda’s golfing landscape.

In the professional category, Rwandan golfer Celestine Nsanzuwera dominated the field with a remarkable total score of 12 under par, claiming the championship.

Uganda’s top golfer, Ronald Rugumayo, finished in fourth place, following a strong performance in the tournament.

Rugumayo had previously come agonizingly close to victory in the Pearl of Africa Golf Championship and showed resilience in Kigali, though he was unable to secure the top spot.

Meanwhile, in the amateur category, Kenya’s Michael Karanga, East Africa’s number one amateur golfer, emerged victorious.

Uganda’s Joseph Chinwayi, the captain of the men’s national team, finished in fourth place. This performance ensures that Chinwayi will automatically qualify to play in the prestigious DP World Tour event at the Magical Kenya Open scheduled for later this week.

Kabasweka’s victory and the performances from both professional and amateur Ugandan golfers highlight the growing talent and competitive spirit in East African golf.
