Defending champions Nkumba University stormed to the summit of Group A in the Pepsi University Football League with a commanding 5-0 demolition of ISBAT University on Tuesday evening at Kanyanya.
The Beach Boys wasted no time stamping their authority, scoring early and often in a performance that left their hosts struggling to keep up.
Kavuma Abbey set the tone in the 14th minute with a thunderous strike from range, beating ISBAT’s goalkeeper Lubandi Eric at the bottom right corner.
Just two minutes later, Mukiibi Saad capitalized on a pinpoint cross from Lubega Ismael to double Nkumba’s lead with a well-placed header.
The floodgates remained open as Lubega turned from provider to scorer in the 20th minute, curling a corner kick directly into the net to make it 3-0.
By now, ISBAT’s defensive frailties were fully exposed, and Nkumba kept up the relentless attack.
Kagimu Marvin extended the lead to 4-0 in the 32nd minute, tapping in a delivery from Kavuma, ensuring the contest was all but settled before halftime.
Despite a brief show of resistance after the restart, with Joshua Ssentongo and Bahiira Katende attempting to test Nkumba’s goalkeeper, ISBAT struggled to break down their opponents.
Nkumba, on the other hand, maintained control and added the final blow in the 72nd minute when Joshua Kamori drilled a low shot past Lubandi, sealing an emphatic victory.
With the win, Nkumba now sits atop Group A with 10 points, continuing their fine form after a 2-1 comeback victory over Busitema last week.
Meanwhile, ISBAT remains at the bottom with a single point, their search for a first win of the campaign growing more desperate.
Action in the Pepsi University Football League continues on Wednesday, February 26, as Kampala University hosts Bugema University in a Group D clash at Nsambya.
