Kenya emerged as the overall winners of the 2025 East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games, which concluded at the Hamz Stadium in Kampala, Uganda on Friday.

Last year’s hosts dominated the 14th edition of the competition, clinching victory in nine categories, including football, athletics, handball, pool table, darts, scrabble, tug of war, folk song, and dance.

However, hosts Uganda secured wins in volleyball and netball.

The event’s opening ceremony was officiated by KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki and Minister of Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Minsa Kabanda on Tuesday.

While, the closing was presided over by Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi and Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Duncans Mugumya.

Kigenyi praised the spirit of camaraderie among participants, emphasizing the friendships built through the competition.

“We congratulate all teams for making this tournament a memorable one. Beyond the wins and losses, these games have strengthened friendships and regional cooperation,” Kigenyi said.

Mugumya also commended KCCA for organizing a successful tournament and acknowledged the importance of sports infrastructure in the region.

“KCCA has done an incredible job in hosting these games. Events like these not only promote sports but also bring pride to our cities and strengthen ties between our local authorities,” Mugumya remarked.

He also acknowledged Hamis Kiggundu, the proprietor of Hamz Stadium, for his contribution to sports development in Uganda.

“The atmosphere at this venue was outstanding, and credit must go to those who have invested in sports facilities like this. Infrastructure is key to the growth of sports in East Africa.”

The EALASCA Games, held annually, bring together local authority teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan, fostering regional unity through sports and cultural activities.
