Serhou Guirassy, the prolific Guinean striker who has taken European football by storm, is poised to bring his formidable goalscoring talents to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States.
Following a meteoric rise that has seen him become one of the continent’s most feared forwards, Guirassy is determined to make his mark on the global stage with Borussia Dortmund.
Since the start of the previous season, Guirassy has established himself as a scoring phenomenon.
His remarkable 28 goals in 28 league appearances for Stuttgart propelled the club to a stunning second-place finish in the Bundesliga, securing their return to the UEFA Champions League after a 15-year absence.
His early-season surge, which included a record-breaking 13 goals in just seven matches, showcased his versatility and clinical finishing.
That incredible form earned him a high profile transfer to Borussia Dortmund in July 2024, where he continued to excel.
Guirassy has seamlessly integrated into the Dortmund attack, netting 24 goals in 32 matches for his new club.
His Champions League campaign has been particularly impressive, with 10 goals so far, including a decisive performance against Sporting CP in the knockout play-offs.
“It’s special when Borussia Dortmund want to sign you,” Guirassy said upon joining the club. “Every child around the world who likes football knows about this club, the Black & Yellow shirts and the Yellow Wall. I’m very excited to experience all of that and to meet my new team-mates.”
Despite a mid-season dip in Dortmund’s league form, which led to the appointment of former Bayern Munich boss Nico Kovac, Guirassy has rediscovered his scoring touch.
His recent four-goal haul against Union Berlin, a feat not achieved by a Dortmund player in the Bundesliga since Erling Haaland in 2020, highlighted his exceptional talent.
“For me, he is one of the best strikers in Europe,” said FIFA World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus. “He showed that last year in Stuttgart, and now he’s proving it in both the league and the Champions League. His speed, his power, and his ability to impose himself make him a top player.”
Guirassy’s form is crucial for Dortmund as they push for a Champions League spot and prepare for their upcoming last-16 clash against Lille.
However, the focus is also shifting to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, where Dortmund will face Fluminense FC, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and Ulsan HD in Group F.
“It’s important for me to say that I have come here to win titles,” Guirassy stated. “BVB showed last season what the club is capable of by reaching the Champions League final. That’s my aim [to win trophies], that’s what spurs me on.”
With Guirassy leading the line, Dortmund will be a formidable force in the tournament, aiming to reach the final at MetLife Stadium on July 13.
His ability to score a variety of goals, coupled with his pace, strength, and composure, makes him a threat to any defense.
Before the Club World Cup, Guirassy will also be a key player for Guinea in their CAF World Cup qualification campaign, as they seek to close the gap on group leaders Algeria.
