Uganda Cranes Arrive in Egypt to Prepare for Mozambique World Cup Qualifier

The locally based Uganda Cranes players arrived in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday morning aboard EgyptAir as preparations begin for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mozambique.

The team, led by head coach Paul Put, will be accommodated at Tolip Gardens Hotel, where they will be joined by foreign-based players traveling directly from their respective clubs.

The match against Mozambique, scheduled for March 20, will take place in Egypt instead of Mozambique’s home soil, as the country currently lacks a FIFA-approved stadium.

This means Mozambique will be playing their “home” fixture on neutral ground, an advantage Uganda will look to exploit as they push for vital points in Group G.

Uganda will then return to Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, for their March 25 home fixture against Guinea.

The Cranes will be looking to maximize points from these two games to improve their standing in a highly competitive qualification group.

Currently, Uganda sits fifth in Group G with six points, level with Guinea and Botswana, while Algeria and Mozambique lead the table with nine points each.

With training set to commence immediately, Put and his technical team will focus on fine-tuning tactics and ensuring the squad is physically prepared for the challenge ahead.

Key players such as Muhammad Shaban, who scored Uganda’s winner against Botswana, will be crucial as the team seeks to keep their World Cup dream alive.
