Five Matches, One Goal: Uganda’s Road to the U19 Cricket World Cup

Following their arrival in Nigeria on March 25, Uganda’s Baby Cricket Cranes are now fully focused on their ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier campaign.

With five crucial matches lined up, the team faces a grueling schedule as they battle for a single ticket to the 2026 U19 Cricket World Cup, co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Uganda will sit out the opening matchday on March 28 but will launch their quest on March 29 against Tanzania at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval.

A high-stakes East African derby follows on March 30, when they take on Kenya at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Cricket Oval. After a rest day, they return to action against Sierra Leone on April 1 at TBS Oval before a key showdown against defending champions Namibia on April 2 at UNILAG Oval.

Their campaign concludes on April 6 with a clash against hosts Nigeria at TBS Oval.

All matches will start at 9:30 AM local time, and with only the tournament winner securing a World Cup slot, the pressure is on for Uganda’s young cricketers.

Skipper Gerald Olipa leads a determined squad eager to add another U19 World Cup appearance to Uganda’s history, having last qualified in 2022.

Uganda U19 Schedule at the Africa Qualifier:

  • March 29: vs Tanzania – TBS Cricket Oval
  • March 30: vs Kenya – UNILAG Cricket Oval
  • April 1: vs Sierra Leone – TBS Cricket Oval
  • April 2: vs Namibia – UNILAG Cricket Oval
  • April 6: vs Nigeria – TBS Cricket Oval

With every match crucial, Uganda will need a strong start and consistent performances to outplay their rivals and punch their ticket to the global stage.
