Team Ageno Defend All-Star Women’s Basketball Tournament Title

Team Ageno successfully defended their 2025 All-Star Women’s Basketball Tournament title with a thrilling 52-48 victory over Team Kamwada in a gripping final held on Sunday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The game, which was a nail-biter from start to finish, saw Team Kamwada leading 48-47 with less than a minute remaining.

However, a crucial defensive play by Team Ageno turned the tide. Margaret Bagala stole an inbound pass from Shakirah Nanvubya, and while driving to the basket, was fouled.

The referees counted the basket and awarded her an additional free throw, which Bagala converted to give Team Ageno a 49-48 lead.

With less than 30 seconds on the clock, another turnover by Team Kamwada led to Fildauce Namuleme being sent to the free-throw line.

Namuleme kept her composure, sinking both shots to extend Ageno’s lead and seal the victory at 52-48.

The MVP of the tournament, Sarah Ageno, who is also a standout player for the JT Lady Jaguars and the Gazelles, led her team to the title.

Her leadership and composed performance under pressure were crucial in the final moments of the game.

Tracy Namugosa of Team Kamwada, who earned the tournament’s Top Scorer accolade, had an outstanding performance but was unable to secure the win for her team.

Despite her 20-point effort, Team Kamwada struggled in the final stages.

Mercy Batamuliza, Ageno’s teammate at Lady Jaguars, was named the Top Rebounder of the tournament after a dominant performance on the boards.

Batamuliza played for Team Kamwada in the final but could not prevent Team Ageno from lifting the trophy.

The tournament was more than just a showcase of basketball talent; it also included a mentorship program that saw former and current players teaching the younger generation valuable life skills and basketball techniques.

The event’s festive atmosphere was enhanced by performances from artists King Saha and Vinka, who thrilled the crowd with unforgettable sets.

For their efforts, Team Ageno took home a UGX 3 million cash prize, while Team Kamwada received UGX 2 million, both courtesy of PostBank.
