Former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has opened up about his struggles since being released by the club last summer, revealing that he is determined to make his return to professional football after a challenging year on and off the pitch.
The 24-year-old’s last competitive appearance was during a loan spell at Ipswich Town in December 2023.
However, his stint there ended prematurely after manager Kieran McKenna noticed something was amiss and sent him back to Manchester United. “He said ‘get yourself sorted and come back as Brandon,’” Williams recalled.
Since leaving his boyhood team, Williams has been grappling with personal issues, including family and friends’ problems, as well as legal trouble stemming from dangerous driving charges.
In August 2023, Williams was caught speeding at nearly 100mph before crashing his car in Cheshire. He will face sentencing for the incident on May 9.
Appearing on Ben Foster’s *Fozcast* podcast, Williams admitted feeling disconnected from the game he once loved. “It hurts me watching football now because I just want to be there, I just want to play. I miss being in a team, on the coach, travelling to games, and just doing things.”
Despite these setbacks, Williams believes his time away has given him the opportunity to “reset.” He is now eager to make a comeback, exploring opportunities in Europe, America, and England. “I want to go somewhere 100% focused and kick on. I would like to experience a different culture,” he said.
