Uganda revived their campaign at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with an impressive 3-0 victory over neighbors Tanzania on Match Day 2.
Following a heavy defeat to Morocco in their opening match, the Ugandan side bounced back with a spirited performance to secure a morale-boosting win.
The game, held on Thursday, saw Uganda dominate in the second half, with goals from Simon Wanyama, Richard Okello, and a late penalty by James Ogere.
Wanyama opened the scoring in the 61st minute, breaking the deadlock and calming Ugandan nerves. Okello capitalized on a defensive lapse in the 85th minute to double their lead, and Ogere sealed the result with a confidently converted penalty in the dying minutes.
The victory came after a strong start from Uganda, with Wanyama, Bogere, and Isima Magala orchestrating promising attacks early on.
Tanzania, also recovering from a 4-1 loss to Zambia, struggled to break through Uganda’s defense due to poor decision-making in key moments.
The win lifts Uganda ahead of Tanzania at the bottom of the group, keeping their hopes of qualification for the U17 World Cup alive.
