KCCA Sack Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru

Uganda Premier League giants KCCA FC have sacked Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru with immediate effect following a dismal run of performances, culminating in a humiliating 4-0 loss to Kitara FC last weekend.

The decision to part ways with the 13-time league champions’ gaffer was reportedly made during a board meeting on Wednesday and communicated to Mubiru via phone by club CEO Anisha Muhoozi.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Mubiru did not attend the decisive meeting due to illness.

Mubiru’s dismissal ends a turbulent 16-month tenure in his second stint at the Lugogo-based club.

He was appointed on November 13, 2023, replacing Portuguese tactician Sergio Daniel Traguil, who departed in October that year.

Mubiru signed a two-year contract and was tasked with stabilizing the club after a poor start to the campaign that had left KCCA near the relegation zone.

He impressively guided the side to a fifth-place finish last season, culminated by a string of impressive results towards the end of the season

However, the 2024/25 season has seen inconsistent form from the Kasasiro Boys under Mubiru.

After 22 league games, KCCA sit sixth with 34 points; having won nine, drawn seven, and lost six. They have scored 28 goals and conceded 18.

While these statistics appear respectable on the surface, club leadership felt the team had underperformed based on expectations and squad depth.

Mubiru’s final game in charge; a crushing 4-0 defeat to Kitara FC at Royals Park Butema, was seen as the final straw.

Ironically, he had labeled Kitara a “small team” earlier in the season , a remark that has since backfired spectacularly.

His overall record at KCCA stands at 23 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses in 44 Uganda Premier League matches.

The club has moved swiftly to name Jackson Kaddu Magera, Mubiru’s second assistant, as interim head coach until the end of the season.

Magera will take charge of the team starting with Saturday’s crucial fixture against BUL at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
