Bellingham Confident Real Madrid Can Stage Historic Comeback Against Arsenal

Jude Bellingham believes Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal is “a night made for Real Madrid,” as the reigning European champions aim to overturn a 3-0 deficit at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Following a humbling first-leg defeat at Emirates Stadium, Madrid face a monumental challenge but remain motivated to write another chapter in their illustrious history.

“I’ve heard it a million times since last week, I’ve seen a million videos—it’s really motivating,” the 21-year-old England midfielder said. “It’s a night that’s made for Real Madrid. A night that would go down in history.”

Real Madrid have only overcome a three-goal first-leg deficit once before, in the 1975-76 European Cup, when they famously defeated Derby County 5-1 at home to progress 6-5 on aggregate. However, they have never achieved such a comeback in the Champions League era.

Bellingham, determined to inspire his team, views the challenge as an opportunity. “There’s not a lot you can do for Real Madrid in the Champions League that hasn’t already been done,” he remarked.

“Tomorrow is an opportunity for us to do something for the first time, so that’s really important to us.”

Arsenal, spearheaded by Bellingham’s England teammate Declan Rice, were dominant in the first leg. Rice’s two stunning free-kicks played a pivotal role, leaving Bellingham impressed.

“The free-kicks were surprising,” Bellingham admitted. “I knew Declan could take set-pieces well, but I’d never seen him do that. Fair play to him.”
