Uganda Set to Host Central African Motocross Opener at Lake Wamala

Uganda will host the opening round of the 2025 FIM Africa Central African Motocross Championship, which will also serve as the third round of the National MX Championship.

The highly anticipated two-day event is scheduled for April 19th and 20th at the newly upgraded Smart Beach Race Track, located on the shores of Lake Wamala in Mityana.

The championship will bring together top motocross athletes from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda in a fierce contest of speed, endurance, and technical skill. Uganda, which will serve as the host nation, also enters the competition as the defending champion.

To challenge riders and elevate the level of competition, organizers have unveiled two distinct race circuits. Senior classes and the MX65 category will tackle a demanding 1.2-kilometre track, while younger participants in MX50 and other junior categories will compete on a 600-metre loop.

For the first time in the championship’s history, the Women’s Motocross (WMX) category will have its own standalone races, no longer mixed with male competitors—a move expected to spotlight female talent on the regional stage.

This year’s edition also marks a significant milestone for Uganda, commemorating 20 years since its first participation in the Central African Motocross Championship in 2005. Arthur Blick, Deputy Vice President of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), emphasized the country’s growth in the sport.

“Ever since we started participating in these series, we have registered a number of achievements. Last year, we were ranked second on the African continent in motocross, and we have one of our Ugandan super motocross riders in America. Our goal always is to step up the level of motocross in this country,” Blick said.

With 83 riders already confirmed and more expected, the competition is set to deliver thrilling action for fans and enthusiasts. Among the standout names leading Uganda’s charge are local stars Ssentamu Fortune and Sserwada Ashimu, both of whom are tipped to make a strong impact on home soil.

The championship is expected to not only provide high-octane entertainment but also reinforce Uganda’s stature as a key player in African motocross.
