The Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, has expressed confidence that Uganda can go beyond bronze at this year’s CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at Parliament, Mugumya commended Speaker Annita Annet Among for her continued support towards youth sports.
“I want to appreciate you, Speaker, for the love and support towards sports. In the first edition, when you flagged off Amus College, they finished third, and this time we are targeting the trophy,” he said.
His remarks came as St. Noa Girls and St. Mary’s Kitende were officially dispatched to represent Uganda at the continental competition in Ghana.
The teams have since landed safely in Accra and are preparing for the tournament set to run from April 23 to 26.
Mugumya emphasized the importance of structured school competitions in driving Uganda’s long-term sports success, saying strong grassroots programs are crucial for national achievement.
