Mbeumo Stars as Brentford Topple Brighton’s European Hopes

Bryan Mbeumo delivered a standout performance, scoring twice and assisting another goal as Brentford secured a decisive 4-2 victory over Brighton.

The win dealt a significant blow to the Seagulls’ pursuit of European qualification, leaving them winless in their past four matches and languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table.

Mbeumo, the 25-year-old Cameroon international, opened the scoring with a powerful right-footed strike after a defense-splitting pass from Keane Lewis-Potter.

Brighton responded on the stroke of halftime, with Danny Welbeck heading in Mats Wieffer’s cross to net his ninth league goal of the season, matching his best Premier League campaign.

In the second half, Mbeumo struck again with his 18th goal of the season—a curling effort deflected slightly off Lewis Dunk—before turning provider for Yoane Wissa. Wissa’s shot ricocheted off defender Jan Paul van Hecke and into the net for Brentford’s third goal.

Brighton’s struggles deepened when Brazilian forward João Pedro received a straight red card for lashing out at Nathan Collins in an off-the-ball incident.

Despite substitute Kaoru Mitoma’s skillful strike reducing the deficit to 3-2, Brentford captain Christian Norgaard sealed the victory in stoppage time, heading home Mathias Jensen’s precise free-kick.

A late clash of heads between Van Hecke and Brentford’s Yunus Konak resulted in a 10-minute injury-time delay, with the Brighton defender stretchered off.
