Seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express are set to clash with UPDF tonight at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The Red Eagles will be aiming to secure a league double over the army side in this return fixture.
Express will draw confidence from their 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture held in Bombo earlier in the season. Second-half strikes from Conrad Ssenjogera and Sam Ssenyonjo sealed the win for the Wankulukuku-based club.
After enduring a five-match winless run, Express bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in their recent outing.
Muhammad Kagawa Ssenoga’s decisive goal secured the three points, and the Red Eagles will be eager to build on this momentum by achieving consecutive league wins for the first time since January, when they triumphed over Soltilo Bright Stars and tonight’s opponents, UPDF.
However, UPDF will arrive at Nakivubo with their spirits high following a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Maroons in Bombo.
Interestingly, both Express FC and UPDF FC are currently tied on 32 points in the league standings. The Red Eagles, however, occupy the 9th position, just above UPDF, due to a superior head-to-head record.
History also favors Express in this encounter. The Red Eagles have maintained an unbeaten record against UPDF in their last six meetings since suffering a 1-0 defeat back in 2021, a game decided by a second-half penalty from Musa Mudde.
