The MTN FUFA Awards are officially back after a hiatus, promising a grand celebration of Uganda’s football excellence with cars, cash prizes, and national recognition up for grabs.
The 7th edition of the prestigious awards was launched at the Kampala Serena Hotel under the theme “Celebrating Football Heroes, Inspiring Future Stars.”
Scheduled for May 30, 2025, the 2024/2025 MTN FUFA Awards will honor outstanding achievements in Ugandan football across 16 competitive categories.
This year’s edition marks a significant comeback after the COVID-19 pandemic forced a pause in one of the sport’s most celebrated events in the country.
At the center of the awards is the Male and Female Most Valuable Player of the Year prizes—each winner will drive away in a brand-new car.
Other category winners will receive medals and cash prizes in what is expected to be a memorable evening of accolades and appreciation for football excellence.
Speaking at the launch, Rogers Byamukama, Chairperson of the FUFA Awards Committee, said the awards serve as a mirror of Uganda’s football journey and a tribute to the stars who inspire future generations.
“The FUFA Awards are not just a ceremony—they are a national reflection of the sport’s progress and the individuals who drive it forward,” Byamukama stated.
MTN, the title sponsor of the event, reaffirmed its commitment to the sport. John Paul Okwi, Manager of Sponsorship at MTN, emphasized the unifying power of football and MTN’s shared values with the game.
“Football brings together people of all colors, tribes, and political affiliations—values we hold dear at MTN. Together, we are unstoppable,” Okwi said.
In addition to the MVPs, categories include Best XI for both men and women, Coach of the Year, Goal of the Year, Beach Soccer Player of the Year, Futsal Player of the Year, and a newly introduced MTN Media Personality of the Year category—recognizing the role of media in promoting the game.
Fans will also have an active role through a public voting process starting May 1 and ending May 25. FUFA has pledged transparency and inclusiveness to ensure fans have a voice in selecting their heroes.
The awards will also recognize fans themselves, with a “Fans of the Year” category, alongside others like the FUFA President’s Award, Upcoming Talent of the Year, and the Fans’ Ugandan Foreign-based Player of the Year.
