In what marks a significant turn of events in Ugandan football, BUL FC head coach Kikomeko Abbey has been slapped with a six-month suspension from all football-related activities by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel (FDP).
The suspension comes after Abbey was found guilty of violent and threatening behavior towards both a steward and match officials during the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal clash between Kitara FC and BUL FC on April 20, 2025, in Butema.
Abbey’s suspension is effective immediately, and it includes all football-related duties and activities, signaling FUFA’s commitment to cracking down on unsporting conduct within the sport.
The Match: Kitara’s Historic Victory and Aftermath
The game, which ended 1-0 in favor of Kitara FC, was a historic moment for the club, as it marked their first-ever win over BUL FC in seven attempts.
This victory secured their spot in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, setting up a potential fairytale run for the defending champions.
However, the excitement around Kitara’s victory was soon overshadowed by the chaotic scenes that unfolded after the final whistle.

Witnesses reported that Abbey’s conduct became even more aggressive, as he was seen engaging in threatening behavior toward the match officials.
The incident immediately sparked widespread concern, as such behavior is not only unbecoming of a coach but also a direct violation of the standards set by FUFA and the broader footballing community.
Abbey’s actions raised questions about respect and discipline in Ugandan football, particularly for a coach of his stature in the domestic league.
FUFA’s Firm Stance on Misconduct
In response to the altercations, FUFA moved swiftly to address the misconduct, issuing a six-month suspension for Abbey from all football-related activities.
This includes a ban from coaching, participating in matchday events, and any official involvement in FUFA-organized competitions.

The FUFA Disciplinary Panel (FDP) also imposed a UGX 5,000,000 fine on the BUL FC coach as part of the sanction.
The fine serves as a financial deterrent against future breaches and to reinforce the message that violent conduct and intimidation of match officials are unacceptable in Ugandan football.
