Lando Norris clinched a dramatic Miami Grand Prix sprint race victory after a timely safety car intervention.
McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri led early after overtaking Kimi Antonelli, but the safety car, triggered by a Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson collision, shuffled the pack.
Piastri pitted just before the safety car, allowing Norris, who pitted under the caution, to emerge in the lead.
Max Verstappen finished fourth but a penalty for an unsafe pit release, colliding with Antonelli, dropped him to last. Lewis Hamilton benefited from an early slick tyre switch to finish third.
Norris, who also won last year’s Grand Prix with safety car assistance, said, “My luck in Miami seems pretty good at the minute.”
Piastri expressed disappointment despite a strong drive.
The chaotic race also saw Alex Albon finish fourth and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crash out before the start. The main Grand Prix race is on Sunday.
