Uganda’s Joy Cheptoyek delivered a commanding performance to win the women’s 10km race at the ASICS Tokyo Speed Race on Saturday, clocking 30:22 on a flat course designed for speed near the Japan National Stadium.
Cheptoyek, a member of Uganda’s 2023 World Cross Country silver-medal winning team, led from the early stages and steadily built a gap over the field.
She crossed the line unchallenged, finishing 18 seconds clear of Djibouti’s Samiyah Hassan Nour, who set a national record of 30:40.
Australia’s Isobel Batt-Doyle took third place in 30:44, also setting a new Oceanian record. France’s Mekdes Woldu was sixth in 31:01, setting a new national best.
The Tokyo win represents a significant milestone in Cheptoyek’s career as she builds momentum toward a packed 2025 season.
