The headline event lived up to the billing, as Tumusiime Nerrick took on Mutaasa Ashraf in a much-anticipated 71kg category grudge match.

Tumusiime, who had won the previous encounter in last year’s edition, wasted no time, dominating the opening stage of the clash amidst top cheers from the fans.

Musician Zex was in attendance

Attacking like a lion, Tumusiime finally landed his big right hook to an open jaw and Mutaasa would not lift himself from down for a few seconds. Knockout was the final decision as Tumusiime secured back to back victory.

“I give back respect to God. For his mercy I have won the fight. I thank my coaches, trainers, managers and fans. I promised, I delivered,” noted Tumusiime.

“I am eyeing a slot at the national team. I want to win medals for my country and I am here to displace jokers,” he added.

Amoko (R) dominated Muleme

Other standout results from Week One included Abwooli Mwajuma’s dominant 5:0 victory over Nabwire Shadia in the Youth 52kg category, and a series of unanimous decision victories across several divisions.

Farahat Maniola of Lukanga Boxing Club defeated Kaddu Julius from Katabi Boxing Club in the Elite 63.5kg division, while Amoko Innocent of UPDF Boxing Club also secured a unanimous win over Muleme Denis of Cobap Boxing Club in the same weight class.

In the Youth 51kg division, Mugerwa Simon of Lukanga Boxing Club earned a unanimous victory over Nsubuga Titus of Kyengera Boxing Club.
