Jacinta Ayo to Parents: Let Your Children Play, It Pays

The National Boys Football Championship was officially opened in Ngora District on Thursday afternoon, with Ngora Deputy Resident District Commissioner Jacinta Ayo urging players to maintain discipline and use the platform to showcase their talents.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ayo emphasized the importance of combining hard work with proper conduct on and off the pitch, noting that opportunities in sports are increasingly rewarding for dedicated athletes.

“I would like to remind you to put in hard work but also stay disciplined. This is a platform to showcase your talent, and it will pay off,” Ayo said. “I want to urge parents to support their children to participate in sports.”

She applauded the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) and local organizers for promoting school sports, which she said plays a vital role in shaping youth character and providing pathways to future success.

The opening ceremony also featured speeches from other dignitaries, including USSSA President Justus Mugisha, who highlighted the role of capacity-building referees at the tournament, and Ngora High School Head Teacher Eliphaz Opolot, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the championship.

The tournament kicked off with a match between hosts Ngora High School and Kyadondo SS, with the visitors securing a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal by Thomas Ogema.
