Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi underwent emergency abdominal surgery following an injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City, reports indicate.
Awoniyi collided with the post attempting to score and initially played on after treatment.
However, the full extent of the injury was discovered Monday, requiring immediate surgery.
The injury sparked concern from Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who confronted manager Nuno Espirito Santo post-match.
The draw dented Forest’s Champions League hopes, leaving them seventh, a point outside the top five with two games remaining.
Despite this, they are assured of at least a UEFA Conference League spot.
