Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins has revealed he became addicted to cocaine after retiring from cycling in 2016.
Speaking to the Observer, the five-time Olympic champion, 45, described being a “functioning addict” for years, a period where his family feared for his life.
He quit a year ago, realizing he “had a huge problem” and was “lucky to be here.”
Wiggins, who won the Tour in 2012, linked his addiction to “self-hatred” and a tendency towards addictive behavior as a way to cope with underlying pain.
He also mentioned that disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong has offered support during his recovery.
