FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is facing scrutiny over proposed statute changes that critics say would consolidate his control over motorsport’s governing body.
A confidential document seen by BBC Sport reveals revisions set for a vote next month that include an earlier presidential election deadline, the potential to bar candidates based on “professional integrity,” and increased control over the FIA Senate’s membership.
Critics, bound by non-disclosure agreements, fear the changes aim to eliminate independent checks and balances.
The “professional integrity” clause is seen by some as targeting potential challenger Carlos Sainz.
Changes to Senate appointments and the World Motorsport Council composition are also viewed as power grabs.
These proposals follow earlier criticism of Ben Sulayem for similar moves in December 2024.
