F1 Drivers Question “Suspect” Swearing Penalty U-Turn

Formula 1 drivers have voiced concerns over the FIA’s swift reversal on strict swearing penalties.

Mercedes’ George Russell called the situation “all a bit suspect,” noting the initial rules were “ludicrous.”

The FIA had threatened bans for swearing and criticizing officials but backtracked this week, reducing potential fines after driver outcry.

Russell, a GPDA director, questioned why the changes were needed at all.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton labeled the situation “ridiculous,” while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen saw it as “a bit better – it’s a start.”

Despite the FIA claiming a “collaborative review,” Russell revealed drivers have had “no correspondence” with senior FIA figures, adding to his suspicion.

He also backed Carlos Sainz Sr’s potential FIA presidential bid.
