Chelsea Women’s manager Sonia Bompastor has hailed Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s £20 million investment as “game-changing,” arriving before their FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Ohanian, married to Serena Williams, bought an 8-10% stake, aiming to build a “global women’s sports brand.”
Bompastor said the investment will elevate the team and motivate them for Sunday’s game, calling it a significant endorsement for the women’s game and young girls.
Ohanian, former major shareholder in Angel City FC, will also take a board seat.
Bompastor believes the funds will aid their Champions League ambitions after a semi-final exit.
She praised the club’s decision to separate the women’s team, ensuring the investment directly benefits their infrastructure and players.
While not yet discussed with the team, Bompastor expects it to provide extra motivation for the FA Cup final.
