Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s wealth has fallen by £6.473 billion in the last year, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
This £17.046 billion fortune marks a significant drop from £23.519 billion, pushing him from fourth to seventh on the UK rich list.
The decline coincides with Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group acquiring a stake in Manchester United and implementing cost-cutting measures like raised ticket prices and redundancies.
Ratcliffe defended these moves, citing the club’s precarious financial situation. Despite this, ambitious plans for a new £2 billion stadium have been unveiled.
Ineos has also faced financial pressures, ending sponsorships due to a struggling European chemicals industry. While Ratcliffe acknowledges these challenges, he insists they won’t impact Manchester United.
Meanwhile, athletes like Rory McIlroy and Harry Kane have seen their fortunes rise in the same rich list.
