Uganda Cranes winger Abdu Lumala can easily be regarded as a journeyman when it comes to his football career.
Lumala is arguably one of the most well-travelled Ugandan footballers, having moved all over the world to play the game, and he’s not about to stop anytime soon.
The 27-year-old is once again on the move, a development he confirmed while appearing on NBS Sport’s Sport This Morning show on Thursday.
“I love travelling around the world, yes, but honestly, I do it for the sport I play, and that’s football,” Lumala said, before adding.
“I was in Croatia when I left Vipers. People here were saying maybe I couldn’t go back to Europe.”
“But in truth, I decide where I want to go, with guidance from a few people here and there regarding the move, but largely, the decision starts with me.”
“So I’ll be returning to Sweden. That’s where I’ll be playing football from. I’ve been there before, and I’m going back, I’m very excited about the deal,” he added.
However, while revealing his next destination, the former Vipers player did not specify exactly which club he is joining.
But this reporter understands that the ‘journeyman’ will be returning to one of his former clubs in Sweden.
Lumala previously played in Sweden from 2014 to 2019, turning out for the likes of:
Mjällby AIF, Kalmar FF, Varbergs BoIS, Helsingborgs IF, IFK Värnamo, and Syrianska FC
He was called up by Sébastien Desabre for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he delivered an impressive performance.
After the tournament, both he and Desabre joined Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
In 2022, Lumala signed for Vipers SC, spending two seasons at Kitende and winning the Uganda Premier League title.
In 2024, he left Vipers and returned to Europe, joining Croatian side Slaven Belupo.
He then signed for Gokulam Kerala in India, a club he has since departed.
