Uganda Cup Final: KCCA vs Vipers – But When Did These Two Giants Last Meet in a Cup Final?

The stage is set for a thrilling finale in Ugandan football as KCCA and Vipers go head-to-head in the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup Final.

The match, scheduled for Saturday, May 31, will be played at the newly constructed Kadiba Stadium in Rubaga, marking the stadium’s official debut.

Road to the Final

Vipers secured their spot in the final with back-to-back 1-0 victories over holders Kitara, advancing 2-0 on aggregate.

KCCA, meanwhile, swept aside FUFA Big League side Kataka with a 3-0 win at Lugogo and a 1-1 draw in Mbale, progressing with a 4-1 aggregate score.

This highly anticipated showdown brings together two of Uganda’s biggest football institutions in what is widely regarded as the country’s most intense football rivalry currently.

A Rivalry Etched in History

KCCA and Vipers last met in a Uganda Cup final in 2018, where KCCA triumphed to claim their 10th title, which remains their most recent piece of silverware.

Their rivalry continued into 2019, when Vipers defeated KCCA 2-0 in the Pilsner Super 8 final, courtesy of a debut brace from then-new signing Fahad Bayo.

Whether on the pitch or online, the rivalry between these two fan bases is fierce and unrelenting, and this final is set to fuel it even further.

Double Glory on the Line

Having already clinched the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League title, Vipers will be aiming to complete a domestic double—their second in history.

Their first came in the 2022/23 season under coach Alex Isabirye.

If they win, Vipers would become only the second Ugandan club to secure more than one domestic double.

The only club to have achieved that so far is SC Villa, with a record six doubles.

KCCA, on the other hand, will be desperate to end their trophy drought and capture their 11th Uganda Cup title, moving them ahead of Express, who also have 10.

Their last domestic double came in the 2017/18 season.

History, Bragging Rights, and a New Chapter

This final is more than just a battle for silverware. It’s about legacy, pride, and dominance.

A Vipers win would add a fourth Uganda Cup title to their name and cement their growing legacy.

A KCCA victory would not only end a six-year trophy drought but also set a new record for Uganda Cup titles.

Beyond the statistics, it’s a meeting of powerhouses, whose fanbases, styles, and ambitions collide with every encounter.
