The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among, reaffirmed her strong commitment to the development of women’s football in Uganda as she welcomed the FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) trophy to Parliament on Monday, May 19, 2025.
While receiving the trophy during its nationwide tour, Speaker Among applauded FUFA for promoting women’s football and expressed her pride in being part of an initiative that supports the girl child and nurtures young talent.
“I am deeply humbled to be selected alongside other women who share my passion for football and empowering the girl child,” the Speaker said. “Her potential is limitless, and I am passionate about supporting and uplifting her.”
Speaker Among, a known supporter of Kampala Queens FC and owner of Bukedea Comprehensive School—an emerging force in girls’ football—emphasized the transformative power of sports. She noted that women’s football has evolved significantly, providing young girls with a platform to showcase their talent and rewrite their futures.
“Today, girls proudly take to the pitch, showcasing their talent and proving that with determination, they can achieve great things,” she said. “Personally, I find women’s football incredibly inspiring. When these talented girls succeed, they can transform their lives and those of their families.”
The Speaker encouraged FUFA to take the FWSL trophy tour across the country to inspire girls in every region and pledged Parliament’s full support in the campaign to empower the girl child through sport.
“What FUFA is doing is commendable. By promoting women’s football, you’re not only showcasing talent but also creating role models for girls nationwide. Many talented young girls lack inspiration, so I pledge my office’s support for your initiative,” she stated.
Among also thanked FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim for his continued efforts to grow women’s football and praised the current leadership’s dedication to gender inclusivity in the sport.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim for his outstanding efforts in developing football, particularly in supporting and promoting women’s football. His passion for the cause is truly commendable.”
To the young athletes, she delivered a message of encouragement and resilience: “Achieving your goals requires determination, consistency, and a clear dream. Don’t let setbacks discourage you. Keep pushing forward, and never give up until you reach your aspirations.”
The FUFA delegation was led by FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and included FUFA Executive Committee member Rogers Mulindwa, Communications Director Ahmed Hussein, safety and security expert Harriet Nakimbugwe, and former league champions Zaina Namulelme, Catherine Nakiridde, and Lydia Nyandera.
The FWSL trophy tour will conclude with an official state reception by the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
