FUFA Unveils New Uganda Premier League Trophy Inspired by Margherita Peak

FUFA has officially unveiled a new trophy for the Uganda Premier League, dubbed “Margherita,” a name drawn from Uganda’s highest peak.

The trophy, introduced on Thursday morning, embodies both symbolic meaning and artistic craftsmanship, aiming to reflect the ambition, resilience, and beauty of top-tier Ugandan football.

Inspired by the towering Rwenzori Mountains, the trophy captures the competitive spirit of clubs vying to reach the pinnacle of Ugandan football.

Standing at 511 millimetres tall, mirroring the 5.11-kilometre elevation of Margherita Peak—the new trophy represents the journey of excellence that the league champions must endure to stand above the rest.

Its design features a football stretched vertically to echo the majestic height of Uganda’s mountain ranges.

The ball’s crescent-shaped silhouette, symbolising a young moon, reflects the theme of new beginnings and the continuous nature of competitive sport. The surface includes hexagonal and half-pentagonal panels in a nod to the classic football design.

The trophy is mounted on a semi-spherical base with dimpled ball textures. It is supported by two distinct tiers one engraved with ‘FUFA’ and ‘Uganda Premier League’ to denote its official standing, and the other a glossy black foundation that adds both contrast and stability.

Vertical lines run along the smooth silver trunk, uniting the top and bottom portions with a stretched-ball aesthetic. This artistic integration of form and meaning transforms the trophy into more than just an award it becomes a story in silver, commemorating those who reach the summit of Ugandan football.

According to FUFA, Margherita is not just a symbol of victory but also a tribute to Uganda’s stunning landscape and the unrelenting drive of the nation’s football clubs.
