Erik ten Hag is reportedly on the brink of becoming Bayer Leverkusen’s new manager, filling the void left by Xabi Alonso, who is expected to join Real Madrid.
The Dutchman, sacked by Manchester United in October, had been weighing up several offers but chose to wait for a summer return to management.
His previous experience in German football includes a two-year stint with Bayern Munich’s second team.
Alonso led Leverkusen to a historic unbeaten Bundesliga title and domestic double last season.
While they finished second this season, they secured Champions League qualification.
Ten Hag’s tenure at United saw him win the FA Cup and League Cup, along with a third-place league finish in his first full season.
