Buhimba United Saints edged closer to promotion into the Uganda Premier League following a crucial 2-1 victory over their nearest chasers, Blacks Power FC, in the FUFA Big League.
The game was played over two days, initially getting played for just 24 minutes on Sunday, before it got disrupted by the heavy downpours at the UTC Grounds. After getting restarted on Monday, the guests managed to cruise to three priceless points on enemy territory.
Edison Agondeze and Martin Opolot netted for Buhimba United in the 44th and 67th minute, respectively, before Paul Oonyu’s consolation in the 89th minute.
With the victory, Buhimba United have opened a commanding six-point lead at the summit, as they have accumulated 48 points with three games to wind down the campaign. They will need five points to clinch the championship.
On the other hand, Blacks Power, who have lost the past three games, lost ground in a bid to assume the top spot. Having played 24 games, they have garnered 42 points in second.
Meanwhile, third-placed Calvary, who are on 42 points, beat Kigezi Homeboyz on Saturday, as they also edge closer to promotion into the topflight.
In their next matches, Buhimba will be guests to Kaaro Karungi FC, while Blacks Power will visit MYDA FC.
