Blacks Power suffered a critical blow in their bid for promotion to the Uganda Premier League after falling 2-1 to Buhimba United Saints in a rescheduled FUFA Big League match on May 26, 2025, at the Uganda Technical College Lira playground.
The result marked a third consecutive loss for the Lira-based side, leaving them six points adrift of leaders Buhimba United Saints, who now sit atop the table with 48 points. Blacks Power, on 42 points, find themselves under increasing pressure with only a few matches remaining in the season.
Originally disrupted by heavy rain on May 25, the match resumed the following day and saw a tense, cautious opening half from both teams.
However, the momentum shifted late in the first period when Buhimba’s Agondeze Edison scored in the 42nd minute, his seventh goal of the season, leaving the home side trailing at the break.
Despite a spirited response after halftime, including a near miss from Isaac Okello and a series of attacking substitutions by head coach Bobby Obira, Blacks Power struggled to convert pressure into goals. Their vulnerability at the back was exposed again in the 67th minute when Martin Opolot doubled Buhimba’s lead.
Blacks Power continued to fight and managed a late consolation through Onyuu in the 90th minute, but it was not enough to avoid another damaging defeat in the promotion race.
The team now turns its focus to a must-win encounter against MYDA FC on June 8. Anything less than victory could see their hopes of returning to the top flight all but extinguished.
