The Oklahoma City Thunder have reached their first NBA Finals since 2012, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1 in the Western Conference Finals.
Despite the dominant win, Thunder MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stressed, “This isn’t the end of our road.”
Gilgeous-Alexander earned Western Conference Finals MVP honors, scoring 34 points in the decisive 124-94 victory.
The 26-year-old is on track to become the first scoring champion since Shaquille O’Neal (2000) to win an NBA title in the same season.
The youthful Thunder, with an average age of 25.6, also saw strong performances from Chet Holmgren (22 points) and Jalen Williams (19 points). “It’s just fun,” Gilgeous-Alexander said of playing with his teammates.
The Thunder will host Game 1 of the NBA Finals next Thursday, facing either the Indiana Pacers or New York Knicks.
