Uganda’s Ogik Preserves Eligibility After Injury-Impacted Lacrosse Season

Uganda national lacrosse player George Ogik has opened up about a challenging year at Colorado Mesa University, where he balances athletics with a demanding Mechanical Engineering program.

The student-athlete revealed that he was unable to complete the past season due to lingering issues from a previous injury, a decision that ultimately allowed him to preserve a year of eligibility.

“This past season of lacrosse took a different turn,” Ogik said. “I didn’t complete this year because a lot was going on with my previous injury. It wasn’t what I originally hoped for, but in hindsight, it was the right decision.”

Although sidelined, Ogik described the year as an opportunity for growth, both mentally and physically.

He noted that the time away from competition has reenergized his drive to return to the field and perform at a high level.

“It gave me time to grow, reflect, and prepare both mentally and physically for the seasons ahead,” he added. “I’m now more motivated than ever to come back stronger next year, both in the classroom and on the field.”

Despite Ogik’s absence, the Colorado Mesa Mavericks enjoyed a successful campaign, finishing with a 13-4 record and clinching the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament title.

The team also qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship, bowing out in the first round after a loss to the University of Tampa.

Ogik is expected to return to full competition for his junior season and play a pivotal role in the team’s future campaigns as the Mavericks continue to assert their presence in both the RMAC and Peach Belt Conference.
